All-in-One Desktop Aquariums

I just set it up this weekend as a plant only tank, I bought black sand, a few dragon stones, a manzanita wood branch and 4 anubias. The tank includes a bottom light that the sand covered, for me it was better to have the sand than to show the light. It also includes a built in filter in the rear compartment, and a light on the top. On the front plate, there are 3 touch buttons, left is the main light (from the top) you can keep it pressed to dim or increase the brightness. A single press will turn it on, after that, it will remain lit for 8 hours. Middle button turns the filter off, right button turns the bottom light on. On the lid, you can place a small pot on top for additional plants, I'll need to find a small plant to put there. As far as fish, I'm not putting any in this, I got it for plants only, might add a nerite snail later on

My 5 year old has been asking me for an aquarium because she wants to turn her bedroom into a jungle. I got her this one because it was small, reasonably priced, looked good, and came with everything needed except hardscape/plants/inhabitants. I was able to setup the tank in just a couple minutes. It holds just over 1 gallon of water and is quiet enough that it can be kept in a bedroom. If the pump is making noise, wiggle it around to help get any air out. The LEDs seem bright enough to grow simple plants like Anubias, Bucephalandra, and ferns. I wouldn't keep fish in here because it is quite a small tank, but snails and a few small Neocaridina shrimp should be okay. I really like that it has a drain hose in the back that makes it easy to change the water without scooping it out from the top. The only downside is the LEDs don't have a built in 24 hour timer and it needs to be manually turned on each day. It looks like you can use an external timer and the lights will come on once the timer does, but the pump will get shut off during the off period. Even with this one minor flaw, its a well made product that is making me and my kid happy.
