This is the first surface skimmer I've used and it's a pretty cool design. The bottom of the intake has an adjustable cap that allows you to block the grates to force water through the surface skimmer, making it easy to use this product with filters of various flow rates. The skimmer does a great job getting small particles off the surface without sucking in a bunch of air and it doesn't add any noise to my tanks filtration system. I've done a few large water changes since adding the skimmer and I haven't needed to play around with or adjust the skimmer to get it functioning again. It's a pretty robust design.

The reason I purchased this was because I could see what looked like an oil slick on the surface of the water. This tank was setup about a month ago (canister filter was running on my other tank for a month so it was cycled) and I could see a few fish running to surface for air. I either had to add airstone, which would take away from my natural look or use a skimmer. I decided to give this a shot, and for the most part, it seems to be doing a good job with a minor addition.
